Why is premarital counseling important?
The average cost of a wedding in Central Florida is $20,000 and couples spend about a year of engagement planning for the big day. What couples often forget to do as they plan for the wedding is to plan for the marriage. The divorce rate in the United States is over 40% and this number increases significantly for 2nd and 3rd marriages. Nobody walks down the aisle planning to be divorced in the future but do very little to actively plan NOT to. The government, churches, and individuals are starting to take notice of the importance of planning for marriage by increasing relationship skills with premarital counseling.
Gottman Relationship Checkup
The Gottman Relationship Checkup is a questionnaire based on 40 years of extensive research by Dr. John Gottman. Dr. Gottman has produced the only research about relationships/marriage. Prior to his research, couples counselors were simply guessing about what created lasting, satisfying relationships. You can imagine that those guesses were highly biased by their own experiences and beliefs. Now we have hard data to guide us toward a satisfying marriage and defy the divorce rates. The Relationship Checkup can be given to both premarital, dating, or married couples. If you love someone and are committed to them than this questionnaire is suitable for you.
The questionnaire is composed of 480 questions about the following relationship topics…
And more
What does it cost? The Gottman Relationship Checkup begins with the completion of an extensive couple inventory by each partner. This will be completed on-line and your partner will never see your answers (so be honest). The cost of this inventory is $30 (you pay with a credit card on-line when you complete the questionnaire). The cost of the 4-8 counseling sessions to follow is $100 per session (55-minute sessions). See Fees & Policies about discount information.
